Before School Begins
The supervision of students begins at 8:30 a.m. Those students who arrive at school before 8:30 a.m. are expected to attend the Morning Mass, which begins at 8:15 a.m.
The importance of the Mass is recognized at Immaculate Conception School both as a way of increasing the faith of the individual and helping build God’s kingdom. Students and staff are encouraged to attend weekday morning Mass in the Church. Arrival at the school grounds before 8:40 A.M., or shortly thereafter, indicates that students and parents have chosen that students attend morning Mass.
During outdoor recess, students must go outside unless they have a note from their parents, or are working with a teacher. Parents please do not send a note for minor medical reasons.
Students who must enter the school building before recess is over should report to the Office. When the bell rings to end recess, students are to immediately line up outside and enter the school quietly and quickly.
Recess will be held indoors when there is inclement weather or for other special circumstances.
Recess is a time for exercise and physical activity. Students are encouraged and given every opportunity to involve themselves in such activities.
Children are expected to bring a nutritious lunch. For safety reasons no food may be eaten in the hallways or on the playground. If necessary, students may have a healthy snack in their classroom at morning recess. Parents are asked not to bring in “fast food” lunches for their children. The school will be facilitating a “healthy lunch” program that will include two hot lunches per month. The chewing of gum is not permitted in the school, on the school grounds, or at school functions.
Students are encouraged to participate in intramurals. Intramurals are designed to maximize participation at all levels. Students who are not participating in their scheduled class games or activities must be outside for recess.
Immaculate Conception School offers a variety of extra-curricular activities in the areas of Fine Arts, Athletics, Academics and Service. All students are encouraged to participate in one or more of these extra-curricular activities. Any student who neglects his studies may be denied participation in these activities until he shows improvement in his studies. The decision will be made by the Administration in communication with the parents, the director of the extra-curricular activity and the classroom teacher.
Leaving the School Grounds
Students are not permitted to leave the school grounds during school hours unless they are in the company of a parent/guardian or if they present a note to the office that is signed by the parent/guardian. These guidelines are in effect for all school-related activities before, during, or after school. We discourage students from running errands during the lunch or recess break. Students are required to follow all school rules on the way to and from school. Students are strongly discouraged from going to corner stores on their way to and from school. Students may not leave school grounds to go to the corner store and then return to school after school.
Ending the School Day
Five minutes before dismissal time, students are to prepare and organize their homework and personal belongings. The day will end with prayer. No class will be dismissed until the closing announcements are read, and the final bell is rung.
